Drawings on paper became costumes

Drawing Performance Project workshops with Stage Design students at the Toneelacademie, Maastricht.

Lucy Algar has made four trips to Maastricht (2014, 2017, 2024, 2025), and it remains one of her favourite places to teach. In 2025, she received funding from the UAL Global Seed Fund, which enabled her to bring four BA Theatre Design students to Maastricht to work alongside the academy’s stage design students. She was joined by her collaborators Kirill Burlov and Hyoung Min Kim.

Together, they led an intensive three-day workshop exploring different strategies for making performance, with drawing as the core process. The project was made possible with the support of Jayne Knowles, Dean of Performance at UAL, and Anne Habermann.
